Computing Questions and Answerscomputing?Q) i have succesfully completed a foundation course in IT and now will be soon progressing onto the bsc computing.
can someone tell me what is the study of bsc computing and what modules are covered?
what jobs can it lead to?
A) It depends on the university of course. "Computing science" is basically a slightly more human-centric version of "computer science". With a BSc in computing, you should be able to get a job as a programmer, database admin, webmaster etc etc.Computing or Admin and Information Technology?Q) Seeing as i got my new job that i applied for (thanks to everyone for the help) , i am looking to study a course at college.
Either HNC Computing or HNC Administration and Information Technology.
Has anyone else done any of these courses before? Can anyone give me a detailed account on what your learn...

I like working with computers, and any of these courses would suit.. What are the average wages if fully qualified??
Thanks for any help given.
I am interested in computers, and would also like to be able to fix them, maintain them, and maybe after a few years training, build them.. Computing course will help wont it?
A) yes, computing courses will help you to be able to fix/maintain computers - look for one with a hardware element if that is what you want to specialise in.suggestions for Bsc Computing dissertation?Q) i am studying computing and i'm really struggling finding a topic on computing, any suggestions?i just need a suggestion, and also how do you think i should approach my chosen topic?thanks
A) Grid Computing and its impact on resources on a network and in an organisation! That or the use of "agents" on the web! TRUE OR FALSE
A) False. Microsoft would have you believe it's true (for the disgraceful Windows activation... Reinstall Windows enough times on the same computer, and your software key becomes invalid), and it's becoming true if TCG has its way.
Luckily, in reality, it's false. Windows XP and later need the internet to confirm your version of windows isn't illegal, but other operating systems don't. It's just the fact you cannot access the internet when your computer can't share information. Luckily, you can still use any programs you haveMathematics for Computing?Q) does any one understand Mathematics for Computing? Can you please tell me what the following are:

what modules/subjects do you study?
what will i benefit from studying b.s.c computing?
what jobs can i got into and what are the expected salary?
A) Hi
bsc usually stands for bachelor of science.
I am doing a bsc computing and information technology degree at the moment in my first year and am studying the following modules in my first year:
(note this is just for queens university of Belfast other unis will study different modules so check uni websites / prospectus)
# Introduction to the science of computing
# Fundamentals of Java programming (worth two modules)
# Introduction to Multimedia 1
# Introduction to Multimedia 2
# Computer Architecture
you study 6 modules a year and most uni's allow you to chose which modules you take.
Check uni websites for degree information and websites such as http://www.s-cool.co.uk/careers_final/default.asp which give info about what you can do with the subjects you are studying at the moment, about different careers and jobs within the computing industry.
http://www.hotcourses.com/ will also give you info about degree courses as will www.ucas.co.uk
If you have a careers department or teacher go to them for advise.
Hope this helped!
Good luckDoes any body know any good websites on mobile computing and the future of mobile computing?Q) I'm looking for more or less anything that is useful in regards to mobile computing i'm doing a research file for mobile computing and I keep thinking a may have missed out something impt. also, I'm also having trouble finding information and the different types of mobile computing. thanks

A) Google "mobileHCI". This will eald you to a series of conference papers on mobile computing from a user and usability perspective.
Context Aware Computing?Q) What does context aware computing mean? What is the advantages of context aware computing compared to traditional computing model? What are some potential disadvantages
A) Context is a powerful, and longstanding, concept in human-computer interaction. Interaction with computation is by explicit acts of communication (e.g., pointing to a menu item), and the context is implicit (e.g., default settings). Context can be used to
interpret explicit acts, making communication much more efficient. Thus, by carefully embedding computing into the context of our lived activities, it can serve us with minimal effort on our part. Communication can be not only effortless, but also naturally fit in with our ongoing activities. Pushing this further, the actions we take are not even felt to be communication acts at all; rather, we just engaged in normal activities; and the computation becomes invisible (e.g., Norman, 1998).relation ship between utilty computing & grid computing?Q) hi to all
all i want is the relation betwwen grid computing and utility computing
Grid Computing tends to refer (in academic circles) to the science, protocols and technologies that enable massively distributed computer systems to be assembled across many organizations. Due to the massive scale of these systems they are often homogeneous (i.e. many different kinds of large computers and protocols that find some common ground through the grid protocols).

A) “As computing machines are getting faster and faster, it may hardly seem worthwhile to spend our time trying tQ) “As computing machines are getting faster and faster, it may hardly seem worthwhile to spend our time trying to design more efficient algorithms. If we need some efficiency, would it not be easier to wait for next generation of fast computing machines?”.
A) No - because in the bigger picture of things machine cycles cost money. Efficiency is a way to wring out all of the computing $$'s from the investment. High speed/low efficiency means a larger waste of resources.
And these aren't little numbers - billions of dollars a year effect on our economy.
Again, in the bigger picture.....pervasive computing?Q) 1] meaning of pervasive computing
2] examples of pervasive computing
A) Impacts of Parallel Computing?Q) Does anyone know any impacts on society (large or small) that have come about as the result of parallel computing? Parallel computing is the act of using the processing power of several computers to work on one large problem. I'm wondering if there have been any important results produced through the use of parallel computing.
Any answers welcome.
Thanks.
A) Yes the benefits of Large Projects, using Parallel Computing is phenominal, there are alot of projects currently being worked on, the cost to use a Super Computer is out of this world, Good Luck and Google your question, the sites will pop up..I am new to computing where do I start?Q) I seem to have very good knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and Modern Studies (media studies). I have yet to complete the Higher level courses in these but the "basics" are good enough for me to move on to these higher levels.
Except my math - my teachers say is not so good to proceed although i have proven many times that my mathematical knowledge is great and I have proven they have a made a mistake in putting me in the second highest class (int 2) - that is pretty much a big blow for me...
Any way I want to prove that I can be taught Maths need experiance in computing (thats what I'm aiming for) I am studying maths hardlly but don't know where to start with computing.
I never have picked computing before, but some of my physics makes up for that.
Please help me.
A) if u know how to type fast enough, how to surf internet, how to download, play games, that means you are already started.Degree in Computing...? What is it all about?Q) Hello!
I'm planning to pursue my studies next month, but as of now, I'm quite blur on which course I should stick with...
There's this college A, which offers degree in computing and another one, let's say college B, which offers degree in information technology.
Is degree in computing something about computer science, where as we would be learning all those stuffs about programming, VB, C, C++, JAVA and etc etc..?
Is it better comparable with degree in IT?
Thanx in advance! =)
A) They could potentially be the same, or they could be quite different. Your best bet would be to check with both colleges to see what the different courses are which lead to each degree.
Potentially, a degree in Computing could be like a degree in computer science, which could lead you into the theory behind computing. It could also be a more practical thing which teaches you various computing languages, styles, programming tips, etc. Or it could simply be a slightly different name for Information Technology.
To my mind, Information Technology would most likely avoid getting into programming, and would focus more on how to use various programs (such as spreadsheets, word processors, databases, etc) in a business environment.
Again, your best bet would be to look at the course offerings from both colleges to see what the courses are which comprise the degrees.
Hope this helps.Computing simple and compound interest?Q) I need an example of computing simple and compund intrests PLEASE...I have NO idea what to do...
thanks ya'll.
SB.
A) Calculate the interest and the total amount when £1000 is invested for 7 years at 5%:
(a) with simple interest;
(b) with compound interest.
(a) The interest is 1000 * 5% * 7 = £350.
The total amount is 1000 + 350 = £1350.
(b) The amount at the end of 7 years is:
1000 * (1 + 5/100)^7
= 1000 * (1 + 0.05)^7
= £1407.10
The interest is 1407.10 - 1000 = £407.10.Computing and Internet.?Q) (a) [10 marks] Explain the concept of layering in networked computing. Describe in general terms how headers are used to implement layering in the TCP/IP model.
(b) [32 marks] Which layers of the TCP/IP model govern the following functions? Describe in general terms how these functions are implemented, with reference to relevant header fields.
(i) flow control
(ii) reliable transmission and error recovery
(iii) logical addressing
(iv) routing
A) a) These layers are in the OSI model which defines the responsibility of each of these 7 layers. We have physical layer, data link, network, session, application, presentation and one more that I have forgotten about. Each of these layers present a raw data to the layer on top of them. So at first we have raw bits, then the physical layer catches that and converts it to packages understandable by the data link layer and so on until it gets to the application layer.
b) i) Data Link
ii) Transport Layer
iii) Network Layer
iv) Network and Session together (3rd and the 4th layer of the OSI model)
Okay I just remembered the actual layers and their responsibilities. These are from top to bottom in the OSI model:
Application Layer : Defines the interaction of various applications with each other.
Presentation Layer: Defines some formatting for proper data representation.
Session Layer: Establishes and maintains the communication channels.
Transport Layer :Ensures error-free data delivery.
Network Layer: Manages addressing of messages for both in and between networks.
Data Link Layer: Defines the access medium required for the physical medium.
Physical Layer: Enters data on the physical medium.Computer usage for computing?Q) I have an xtra PC that can be only 24-7 do you know a group that needs the computing power for online computing? like nasa, popular science, some college?
